From Mismatched Fillings to a Uniform Smile: A CEREC Crown Makeover in Centennial, CO

Most smile makeover stories start the same way: a patient who has been tolerating something about their smile for years, waiting for the right time to do something about it.

This patient had been a part of our practice family for a long time. Over the years, she had accumulated a mix of old fillings and crowns that no longer matched the aesthetic she wanted. Different shades, different textures, different ages: her teeth told the story of a patchwork of dental work done over decades rather than a cohesive, planned smile. She was also ready to replace those old fillings entirely and start fresh with teeth that looked like they belonged together.

She came to us with a clear goal: a beautiful smile with the same color and look throughout, completed as efficiently as possible. What we delivered was a full smile makeover in a single visit.

The Challenge: Aesthetic Uniformity Across Multiple Teeth

When a patient wants comprehensive smile improvement, the challenge isn't just making individual teeth look better. It's making all of the teeth look like they belong to the same smile, with consistent color, shape, and translucency from one tooth to the next.

For this patient, we were working across seven teeth simultaneously. Each one needed to be evaluated, prepared, and restored in a way that contributed to an overall aesthetic that felt natural, cohesive, and age-appropriate. The goal wasn't a blindingly white Hollywood result. It was a polished, uniform smile that looked like it had always been hers.

Before any treatment began, our team completed a wax mock-up so she could visualize and approve her new smile before a single tooth was touched. This preview step is something we build into every significant cosmetic case because it removes guesswork and ensures the patient and Dr. Franquemont are fully aligned on the outcome before treatment begins.

The Solution: Seven CEREC Same-Day Crowns

Rather than a multi-appointment process involving temporary crowns, lab wait times, and repeat visits, we used our in-office CEREC technology to design, mill, and place all seven crowns in a single appointment.

Here's what that process looked like for this patient:

  • Digital impressions. We began by taking precise digital scans of her teeth with no messy impression material and no discomfort. These scans gave us a three-dimensional model of her existing teeth and bite that served as the foundation for the crown design.
  • Custom crown design. Using CEREC's design software, Dr. Franquemont designed each of the seven crowns individually, calibrating the shape, size, and color to create a uniform aesthetic across the full smile while accounting for the natural variation that makes a smile look realistic rather than artificial.
  • In-office milling. Each crown was milled from a single block of high-quality ceramic right in our Centennial office. No dental lab. No temporary crowns. No second appointment two weeks later.
  • Placement and final adjustments. Once milled, each crown was carefully placed, checked for fit and bite, adjusted as needed, and bonded permanently. By the end of the appointment, the patient left with a complete, finished smile with no temporaries and no follow-up for crown delivery.

The only follow-up scheduled was a separate visit to fit her for a custom nightguard to protect her new smile from any nighttime grinding, which is a smart investment for any patient following significant restorative work.

The Result

The before-and-after images tell the story better than any description.

In the full smile photos, the transformation is visible immediately. The mismatched, aging collection of prior dental work has been replaced with seven crowns that share a consistent shade, shape, and surface texture. The result looks natural and not overdone because the goal was always a smile that looked like hers, only better.

The intraoral photos show the uniformity achieved across the posterior teeth as well. The bite relationship is maintained, the margins are clean, and the color match across all seven crowns is consistent. This is the view that matters functionally, and it confirms that the aesthetic result didn't come at the expense of the bite.

Why CEREC Made This Possible in One Visit

CEREC technology changes the calculus of comprehensive restorative cases in a way that patients notice immediately. For a patient receiving seven crowns, the traditional alternative would have involved a preparation appointment with seven temporaries placed, a two-to-three week wait for lab fabrication, a second appointment for temporary removal and crown delivery, and the inherent risk of temporaries breaking, shifting, or causing sensitivity in the interim.

With CEREC, that entire timeline compresses into a single appointment. The crowns are designed and milled while the patient is in the chair. There are no temporaries to manage and no lab turnaround to wait for. Because the crowns are designed digitally with full control over every parameter including shade, shape, contour, and margin, the precision of the outcome is exceptional.

For a patient who had been thinking about this transformation for years, completing it in one visit felt appropriate. She came in with a patchwork smile and left with the one she'd been picturing.
